Long Barrack Archaeology Update - August 9

August 9, 2024

Only one excavation unit—EU-27—was active this week. Archaeologists also continued to process artifacts in the lab.

Within EU-27, archaeologists reached the required depth of 60 cm below surface. There was considerable evidence of previous impacts within this unit and original soil deposits were either significantly disturbed or no longer present. Four utility conduits extended across the unit.

While in the lab, archaeologists continued to process artifacts. Some of the more interesting artifacts included a ceramic doll’s face, a burnt corn cob, a complete bottle, a cuprous object, and a Puebla Polychrome ceramic sherd.
