We are happy to share with you the latest developments in the construction around the Alamo. Your ongoing patience, and support have played a crucial role in advancing the Alamo Plan, and we deeply appreciate your contribution.
Traffic Restrictions in the Alamo District: As of November 1, 2023, vehicle traffic has been halted in the Alamo District, specifically from Commerce St. to Crockett St., and along Crockett St. from Alamo Plz. to Losoya St. We recognize the inconvenience this may cause and assure you of the necessity of this step for construction progress.
Pedestrian Pathways and Safety Enhancements: Since November 6th, a protective fence surrounds the future Texas Cavalier Education Center, enclosing the southern part of the Alamo Gardens and the path between the Menger Hotel and the Alamo. Despite these changes, pedestrian access between the Alamo and the Menger Hotel continues uninterrupted.
For Visitor Safety and Convenience:
- A designated pedestrian lane will run from North to South on Alamo Plaza, and East to West on Crockett St., outlining the western boundaries of the Alamo District.
- To the east of the Alamo District, another pedestrian route will initiate near the Menger Hotel, stretching North to South. This path, close to the Menger Hotel, will lead directly through the Alamo Arcade, ensuring a seamless connection from Alamo Plaza to the River Center Mall vicinity.
Important Update on the Lower Paseo: We are excited to announce the progression of construction work on the Lower Paseo, also known as Paseo del Alamo, the bridge the Riverwalk and the Alamo. This critical project, which began on January 15, 2024, is advancing with construction fencing installed around the project area to ensure public safety and delineate the construction zone. The Ripley's Believe It or Not! gift shop will continue to operate with pedestrian access maintained.
Visitor Center and Museum (VCM): The erection of scaffolding and scrim (a rendering cover of the future VCM) on the sidewalk in front of the VCM began on February 7 and will continue through February 28.
During these projects, we are committed to minimizing disruptions to the local community and maintaining a safe environment for both the public and Alamo staff. To keep everyone informed, we will be providing regular updates on the progress of this project.
