Manson Shied, Alamo defender, was born in Georgia in 1811. He was subsequently a resident of Brazoria, Texas, and made his living as a carpenter. He took part in the siege of Bexar and later served in the Alamo garrison as a member of Capt. William R. Carey's artillery company. Shied died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
