**This trip is reserved for current teachers seeking professional development credit only.**
Teachers are invited to apply for a free one-day trip to historic sites in and around Goliad. Teachers will participate in guided visits at the Mission Espiritu Santo at Goliad State Park & Historic Site, Presidio La Bahía State Historic Site, and the Fannin Battleground State Historic Site.
This experience is entirely free to teachers, thanks to the generosity of our donors. It includes transportation, meals, and admission to historic sights outlined in the itinerary. As you draft your answers, keep in mind that space is limited, and that it's a competitive application process.
In advance of the trip, teachers hear about the connections between the Alamo, and the mission and presidio in Goliad in the pre-travel workshop. These sites whose histories closely overlap illustrate different eras of preservation and provide many opportunities for comparison and deep learning.
During the trip, teachers begin at the best preserved Goliad mission and hear about the native peoples and life in Spanish Texas. Then teachers travel to the military fortress that protected the mission and Spanish subjects. Like the Alamo, control of the fortress changed hands many times during its history and was later a site important to the Texas Revolution. Finally, visit the site of the Battle of Coleto Creek and General Fannin's surrender 10 miles from Goliad.
After the trip, teachers work in small groups to transform their learning into usable classroom resources in a one-day curriculum writing day. Teachers receive a total of 12 hours of continuing professional education.
