The Alamo's dedicated education team is here to help you teach Texas history with Texan flair, both inside and outside the classroom. Here, history is for all ages, with TEKS-focused, high-quality learning resources and programs that build knowledge of the past, curiosity, critical thinking skills, and a desire for life-long learning. Let’s enable the next generation to Remember the Alamo!

The Alamo’s Learning Programs team believes that everyone can be a student of history. We seek to create resources and programs that serve a three-fold purpose:

The Battle and the Texas Revolution

The Battle of the Alamo in 1836 was part of the Texas Revolution in which the Mexican state of Tejas won independence and became a self-governing republic: Texas. What caused Tejas residents to forge their own path so soon after Mexico had won independence from Spain? Why were the Alamo and its famous defenders in the thick of it? What was the “Texan Liberty” they were fighting for and was it for everyone? Their stories, famous and otherwise, tell us.

Field Trips

Explore the place where history was made for a unique day of hands-on learning! Your class will enjoy walking through the iconic Alamo church, seeing historical artifacts, talking with living historians, and much more. To make everyone’s visit great, all educational groups must register in advance.

History Trunks

Hold history in your hands! Alamo history trunks are filled with reproduction 1830s objects designed to provide a hands-on experience in the classroom. Educators may loan trunks on a first come, first serve basis for two weeks.

Professional Development

Earn CPE credit hours and develop your professional teaching expertise with our popular and well-reviewed educator workshops. These workshops, led by the Alamo’s Learning Programs and Collections staff, explore the Alamo’s 300-year story, and connect it with state and national history. You will also learn how to use primary sources in your teaching.

Alamo Church Virtual Tour

Virtually step into the Alamo Church to discover more about the historic site and immerse yourself in Texas history. This tour consists of over one hundred crystal clear 4K resolution scans of the interior and exterior of the iconic Alamo Church, allowing digital visitors from around the globe to view and learn more about the Shrine of Texas Liberty.
