On Monday, December 9th, the Alamo celebrated a special occasion with a dedication ceremony marking the restoration of the Diorama of the Battle of the Alamo, donated by musician and historian Phil Collins and modeled after a scale replica of the Alamo compound created by artist Mark Lemon. This restoration was made possible by a generous $500,000 donation from the Sterling-Turner Foundation to the Remember the Alamo Foundation. The donation was given in memory of James Sterling Reckling, Jr., whose legacy is honored with a commemorative plaque at the diorama inside the Alamo Exhibit at the Ralston Family Collections Center.
During the ceremony, Alamo Conservator Pamela Jary Rosser expressed heartfelt thanks to the Sterling-Turner Foundation for their support of this important preservation effort. She also reflected on the impact and memory of James Sterling Reckling, Jr., whose legacy continues to resonate through this meaningful contribution.
Father Juan Torres of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston, TX, offered a blessing to the gathered group, honoring the memory of James Sterling Reckling, Jr.
Since its debut in the Ralston Family Collections Center on March 3, 2023, the diorama has drawn more than 500,000 visitors, captivating audiences with its detailed depiction of the Alamo complex as it appeared in 1836. Thanks to the Sterling-Turner Foundation’s generosity, this beloved feature will continue to educate and inspire all who visit.
The Battle of the Alamo Diorama is on display at the Alamo’s Ralston Family Collections Center, located directly behind the historic Alamo Church. Visitors are encouraged to experience this intricate representation of the Alamo and learn more about its enduring legacy.
