Children on a field trip to the Alamo

The Alamo is proud to announce School Day on Friday, February 24, 2023. This event is designed to educate students of all ages about the history of the Battle of the Alamo and 1830s life.

With over 1,000 students expected to attend, this is a unique opportunity for students to learn about the Alamo's past and gain a deeper understanding of Texas history. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and admission is free for all students.

Students are invited to learn about the Alamo and life at the time of Texas Revolution. Pre-registered schools can watch a reading of the letter William B. Travis sent on February 24, 1836, participate in multiple living history demonstrations, visit the Alamo Church, and engage in self-guided activities on Alamo Plaza. Sidewalk chalk, performances, and musket firing round out a fun-filled educational experience.

The Alamo recently hired Kate Carey to be Vice President of Education, Interpretation, and Guest Experience. Carey brings 18 years of experience from the McNay Art Museum, where she oversaw the Docent program and led the Education team.

"We're thrilled to welcome students from all over the state to School Day at the Alamo," said Kate Carey of the Alamo Trust, Inc. "This event is a fantastic way for students to learn about the important role the Alamo has played in our nation's history."

In addition, Executive Director of the Alamo Trust, Inc. Kate Rogers received her Doctorate in Public Education (EdD) from the University of Southern California in January 2023.

"Education is the foundation of progress and growth, and at the Alamo, we believe in providing students with a hands-on, immersive experience to learn about the history of this iconic site. It is our responsibility to preserve the legacy of the Alamo and pass it on to future generations, and through education, we can ensure that the story of bravery, sacrifice, and courage lives on." - Dr. Kate Rogers, Executive Director of the Alamo Trust, Inc.

Teachers are encouraged to bring their classes for a day of learning and fun! Email education@thealamo.org to sign up.
