The Alamo is proud to invite the public to a dynamic and immersive historical event, the Never Surrender or Retreat reenactment, headlined by Country Music Star William Beckmann. Beckmann, renowned for his captivating blend of vintage country, Americana, and Latin influences and a native of Del Rio, TX, will lead this memorable event.
On February 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Alamo Plaza, visitors will have the extraordinary opportunity to witness a live recreation and reading of Colonel William Travis' legendary call for reinforcements during the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Beckmann, with his profound Texas roots and fervor for history, will spearhead the reenactment.
Additionally, this event marks a special occasion with the return of the historic Travis Letter from February 23 to March 24, 2024. This historic document will be on display at the Alamo Exhibit, offering special viewing opportunities for Friends of the Alamo members. We are also proud to announce that the Ralston Family Collections Center will open its doors to the public at no cost on selected dates: February 26 - 27, March 4 - 5, and March 18 - 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., allowing unprecedented access to this treasured artifact.
Alongside the reenactment, attendees are also invited to actively participate in a writing activity/contest, where they can compose their own "Never Surrender or Retreat" letters. This hands-on element promises to provide an enriching experience for families, history enthusiasts, and community members, fostering a deeper connection with a pivotal chapter in Texas history.
Admission to both the reenactment and the writing activity/contest is completely free, extending a warm invitation to the public to engage with history, and view the revered Travis Letter. This event at the Alamo is not only a tribute to the past but also a celebration of Texas' rich cultural and historical heritage.
