On October 21, 2024, at 10 a.m., the Alamo will host a special ceremony to honor the contributions of German defenders in the Battle of the Alamo. The event, which will take place in front of and inside the historic Alamo Church, will commemorate two of the 189 known defenders who hailed from Germany. A stone provided by the German Consulate in Houston and from Germany will be placed inside the Alamo Church to honor their legacy.
This commemorative stone will serve as a lasting tribute to the German defenders and highlight the global significance of the Alamo’s history. The placement of the stone also underscores the strong historical and cultural ties between Germany and Texas.
The ceremony will feature performances by the Beethoven Männerchor and Beethoven German Band, who will provide traditional German music, enhancing the historical and cultural significance of the event. The Beethoven Männerchor, founded in San Antonio in 1867, is the oldest German Choir west of the Mississippi River.
Speakers will include representatives from the German Consulate in Houston and officials from the Alamo Trust, Inc.
This event is free and open to the public, and all are welcome to attend to honor the legacy of the Alamo’s German defenders.
