Frequently Asked Questions- Field Trips

  • Do I need to book my field trip in advance?

Yes, schools must register a minimum of two weeks before their visit. Some experiences have limited capacities and sell out quickly, especially during peak season (March-May).

Schools that arrive without a reservation are not eligible for school group pricing and will only have access to Free Church Entry—book in advance to prevent any delays during your field trip.

  • What should I consider when requesting a field trip to the Alamo?
    • Group Size
      • How many people are in your group, including students, teachers, and chaperones? There are many memorable ways for students to experience the Alamo on a field trip. Review the field trip options to select the best visit type for your group. Field trip capacities are strictly enforced.
    • Pricing and Payment
      • Alamo field trips vary in price and availability according to group size and time allotted.
      • To visit as a group and receive the school group discount, schools must pay the total invoice for the group, including students,  teachers, and chaperones. No separate payments are allowed. This may require group leaders to collect payment from chaperones in advance if the school is not paying their entry.
  • Can I purchase tickets to the IMAX through the Alamo?

No, the Alamo is not affiliated with the IMAX.

  • What can our group do at the Alamo?

Check out What’s at the Alamo for more information on what to see during your visit.

  • When is the Alamo closed or unavailable to tour?

The Alamo is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day except December 25. The Alamo Discovery Tour is only available Monday through Friday and is subject to availability. However, other experiences are available daily. Please visit www.thealamo.org/fieldtrips for more details.

  • When should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your visit.

  • Should I divide my students into groups?

We recommend dividing large groups into smaller ones of 20-25 students. It works best for students to visit with their classroom teacher when possible. Typically, the entire group will enter the Alamo church at once, though larger groups may be asked to stagger their entries.

For the Alamo Discovery Tour, classes of 20-25 students are assigned one guide each. Smaller classes may be combined.

  • Where can we eat lunch?

Groups are allowed to eat on Alamo Plaza. The Alamo is not responsible for storing any coolers or lunch boxes. A school representative must monitor lunches and other school property at all times. Picnicking is not allowed within the Alamo walls, including Convento Courtyard, Cavalry Courtyard or the Alamo Gardens. Students may hand carry a sack lunch during their field trips if all food and drink are kept closed during the visit.

  • What if I need to cancel?

To reschedule your reservation or to cancel and receive a full refund, school groups must email us at least one week before the field trip. Reservation changes or cancellations must be made by email to education@thealamo.org.
