In 2018, San Antonio will celebrate its 300th anniversary, and as part of that celebration, the Alamo is excited to announce the Alamo Tricentennial Lecture Series!

Each month, the Alamo will bring you experts who will explore the events, people, and themes that shaped the history of the Alamo, San Antonio, and Texas.

Medicine in the 19th Century has been described as “heroic” reflecting not so much the practitioners of physic, but rather the bravery of the patients for enduring the cure often times deemed worse than the affliction.   Immigrants from the United States brought with them Western medicine, but they were also influenced by their new neighbors in Texas.  This story depicts an emerging Republic that cobbled together civilian physicians in an attempt to assuage the fevered and bleeding brow of revolution.
