In 2018, San Antonio will celebrate its 300th anniversary, and as part of that celebration, the Alamo is excited to announce the Alamo Tricentennial Lecture Series!

Each month, the Alamo will bring you experts who will explore the events, people, and themes that shaped the history of the Alamo, San Antonio, and Texas.

The presentation will cover the history of Fort Sam Houston and the US Army in San Antonio. Beginning with the initial arrival of the army in 1845, the talk will highlight the numerous army activities throughout downtown San Antonio that led to the strong bond between the city and the service. We will discuss the army's impact on the Alamo as well as the decisions that led to the move to Government Hill. We will cover the construction of the Quadrangle and the growth of Fort Sam Houston, which by the mid-1910's had become the largest US Army post in the nation. We will discuss the changing role of the Fort and conclude with the missions it continues to perform today.

This event is free and open to the public.
