In 2018, San Antonio will celebrate its 300th anniversary. Join us for a series of workshops that explore the eras of Texas from 1400 - 1836 and the integral place that the Alamo holds throughout San Antonio's 300 years.

The Presidial Company of Alamo de Parras

Join us for a look into the dress and material culture of Texas presidial troopers in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Using artifacts recovered from Spanish presidios, translated Spanish documents and contemporary artwork we examine what was supposed to be and what actually was. Learn what it took to maintain the daily existence of a small company of soldiers surrounded by vast stretches of wild country filled with hostile Indian tribes interspersed with meddling filibusters. Scott McMahon will lecture.

About Scott McMahon

Scott McMahon worked at Washington on the Brazos SHS for Texas Parks and Wildlife for almost eight years before leaving to take a position at Presidio La Bahia working for the Diocese of Victoria in February of 2014.  In December of 2014 Scott was promoted to Director of Presidio La Bahia and has worked tirelessly since that time to add new and exciting interpretive programming as well as to foster a more authentic appearance for the old presidio.

Texas history has been a lifelong passion for Scott and he has been active at numerous historic sites across the state helping to promote our rich and colorful history. Scott helped to promote inter-agency support for the 175th anniversary of Texas' independence and later planned, organized and rode nearly 180 miles of old Texas trails to promote the 180th anniversary of Texas' independence. Scott is currently working on a long term master plan for the maintenance of Presidio La Bahia which includes provisions for a "period facelift" for the walls and structures making up the presidio.
