When Forgotten Battlefield of the First Texas Revolution: The Battle of Medina first appeared in print in 1986, the authors’ claim was certainly true.  Ted Schwarz’s and Robert H. Thonhoff’s classic study of this epic battle revived interest in this episode in Texas History that continues to grow.  Today we recognize the Battle of Medina—the largest land battle west of the Mississippi—for the role it played in Mexico’s wars of independence as well as the United States’ westward advance.

On August 18, 2018, the 205th anniversary of the battle, the Alamo presents a free program that highlight its significance not just to Texas but to the history of San Antonio. This lecture will be conducted by the Alamo's Curator and Historian, Dr. Bruce Winders. The public is invited to join us in Alamo Hall at 12:00pm to learn about the Battle of the Medina.
